Tell us about your organisation:

Youth Focus North East is a regional youth work charity established in 1989. Formerly known as the Regional Youth Work Unit – North East, the organisation works across the North East of England to improve the lives of young people and strengthen the youth sector. Its vision is that all young people should have access to high-quality opportunities, support and services that enable them to reach their full potential. The organisation aims to amplify young people's voices, influence policy and practice, and support professionals and organisations working with young people.

Who do you serve and how do they access services?:

Youth Focus North East serves young people aged 10–25, youth workers, community organisations, schools and voluntary sector agencies across the North East. Young people can access services through schools, youth clubs, community projects, partner organisations and local authority referrals. Professionals and organisations engage through membership networks, training programmes and partnership initiatives.

What are your current projects or services?

Current projects include the North East Youth Alliance (NEYA), youth voice and participation programmes, the Belong Collective addressing youth loneliness, Regional Impact Networks, workforce training and development, research projects, and enrichment programmes supporting schools and communities. The organisation also delivers youth work projects, holiday activities and supports partnership working across the region.

What are your main concerns at the moment?

  1. Ensuring sustainable funding for youth services and community provision.
  2. Addressing inequalities affecting young people, including poverty, mental health and social isolation.
  3. Ensuring that young people's voices continue to influence local and national decision-making.
  4. Promoting positive relationships, challenging discrimination and ensuring that young people's voices are heard in discussions around social issues.
