Company of Others
Tell us about your organisation:
Company of Others was founded in 2016, to be a place where people who experience being othered can dance, be artistically ambitious and build community.
Who do you serve and how do they access services?:
We work with lots of different kinds of people, from age 4 to 90, and our offer can be accessed by getting on touch directly to register for any of our programmes, you can find out what we offer at www.companyofothers.org.uk.
What are your current projects or services?
Walker Youth Dance Project – dance and choreography training for children and young people
Moving Together – a space for women who are Global Majority and/or sanctuary experienced only, using movement and dance for wellbeing
Company of Others Ensemble – a programme for elders to keep moving and perform choreography
Walker Youth Dance Festival – a free dance festival in Walker Park on 18th July 2026, 3.00pm - 4.00pm
Rooted in Movement – our support programme for professional dance artists in the North
Seasonal Gatherings – every season we bring our community together to dance, eat and celebrate their creativity
HELD – our next co-created production with women and girls
All of our work is FREE or PAYF to access.
What are your three main concerns at the moment?
I’m really concerned about community safety for Global Majority people in our region, as the far right continues to rise nationally. We need more people who aren’t Global Majority to stand with us, and to tackle racism wherever they see it.
Of course, sustaining our work is always a concern given the current financial climate. We’re really good at making magic happen with very little at CO.
We’re also on a mission to ensure that everyone in Walker knows about who we are, what we do and how to access our work.
