Bilal Jamia Masjid
Name of organisation
Pakistan Muslim Association Newcastle Central Mosque and Islamic Centre (Bilal Jamia Masjid)
Tell us about your organisation (history, aims, vision):
We run the Newcastle Central Mosque and Islamic Centre, including the Children's Language School. Our vision is to promote religious, educational and social activities and to have social and welfare relations with other groups within our local area. We aim to help and provide birth, marriage and burial facilities and to assist and help all in need.
Who do you serve? How do they access services?
We serve our ethnically marginalised communities. Our Mosque and Islamic Centre is a community and faith space for these communities as accessing traditional services is often very difficult for them. We have a Community Centre and volunteers to support our local community.
What are your current projects or services?
Our current projects are youth-based, including sports activities to keep kids off the streets. Our Community Centre is available for events for all communities. We also provide marriage services and prayer facilities.
What are your three main concerns at the moment?
Our three main concerns at the moment are: Islamophobia and racism; education, employability and opportunities (especially for young people); and health and wellbeing, including the issue of addiction.
