Supporting Linda - Child Protection
What were the challenges?
Linda was pregnant with an Interim Care Order. She has a learning difficulty and severe memory and communication issues. She has a history of negative experience with Children's Services.
What advocacy support did we provide?
The advocate:
- Ensured Linda understood the Child Protection Plan and its implications on her and her unborn baby
- Attended all meetings with or on behalf of Linda and informed her of the meeting outcomes and implications
- Debriefed and helped Linda understand what was being said in meetings
- Fought for Linda to have reasonable adjustments for her disability
- Ensured simple terminology, breaks and sensitive explanations
- Put forward Linda’s questions to the meeting
- Improved communication between Linda and the Social Worker
What difference did our advocacy support make?
An Adoption Plan was put in place. With support Linda was able to challenge this decision and accessed appropriate legal representation. Our support is ongoing.
