About the project
The West End Community Counselling Pilot will offer accessible counselling for adults experiencing anxiety, low mood, stress and other emotional difficulties. It aims to support approximately 30–40 people during the funded year, with an initial six-session offer and options for further support where appropriate.
What you will do
• Respond sensitively to enquiries and referrals and guide prospective clients through the agreed referral process.
• Arrange assessments and maintain appointment and counsellor availability information; support allocations in line with clinical decisions and service procedures.
• Provide day-to-day administrative support to trainee counsellors and liaise with supervisors and the wider counselling team.
• Maintain accurate, confidential administrative records using approved systems, with appropriate separation from clinical records.
• Build working relationships with community referral partners and support publicity and accessible routes into the service.
• Collect attendance, referral and feedback information for monitoring; flag gaps or emerging issues promptly.
• Escalate safeguarding, risk or suitability concerns to the Clinical Lead rather than making independent clinical decisions.
• Contribute to team meetings and service improvements within the agreed five-hour weekly allocation.
What we are looking for
• Strong organisation, communication and administrative skills, including confidence with digital records and spreadsheets.
• A compassionate, inclusive approach to adults who may be experiencing financial pressure or barriers to accessing support.
• Understanding of confidentiality, professional boundaries and safeguarding escalation.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to prioritise within a small part-time role.
• Experience of counselling, mental health, community services or voluntary-sector administration is desirable; a counselling qualification is not essential.
Support and accountability
The postholder will receive induction and ongoing support from the Project Lead and the established Here and Now counselling team, including the Senior Counselling Service Co-ordinator. Clinical assessment, safeguarding oversight, supervision and grant-level management remain with the designated leads.
