Celebrating Small Charity Week: Thriving Walker
This week is Small Charity Week. To celebrate, each day we're going to feature a small charity and tell you about the amazing work that they do. Today's small but wonderful charity is...
Thriving Walker
Lived experience leads change
At the heart of Walker in Newcastle, Thriving Walker stands as a small but powerful peer-led community hub, dedicated to supporting individuals facing some of life’s most difficult challenges. Whether dealing with food insecurity, mental health struggles, homelessness, or recovery from addiction and domestic abuse, the hub offers a safe, welcoming environment where everyone is treated with compassion and dignity.
Thriving Walker provides free holistic support, a variety of weekly activities such as:
One Stop Shop drop-in session
Monday from 10am-1pm we can help with benefits, budgeting, online forms, mental and physical health advice and guidance, housing, learn what's on in the community and more.
One to One Holistic support
Why not make an appointment with one of our volunteers to look at the support we can offer to improve your health and wellbeing and help you achieve your goals, whatever they may be for the future.
Walker Litter Picks
Volunteers help tidy up the neighbourhood while also making new friends!
Positivity Group
A place where you spend time having uplifting conversations and uplifting activities and make connections.
Walker Craft Session
Simple crafts, new pals and a cuppa.
Walker Warriers & SMART Recovery
Peer-led support around addiction and recovery, with lived experience and ReCoCo.
Stop Smoking Start Thriving
Friendly advice sessions on person-centred ways to quit.
The volunteers, many of whom have experienced similar journeys, are the backbone of the organisation. Their lived experience fosters authenticity, trust, and hope in every aspect of the hub’s work.
As Small Charities Week is celebrated, Thriving Walker expresses deep gratitude for the support of Building Futures East and Connected Voice, whose contributions have been instrumental to its success. The organisation values all its partners and believes in the strength of collaboration—by listening and working together, they are better equipped to meet the real needs of the community.
