Young Trustees Training
Our Young Trustees training involves a collaborative approach to teaching young people aged 15-19 the skills they need to become and thrive as a young trustee.
Learning outcomes:
- To understand what a trustee is and what the key roles and responsibilities of a trustee are.
- To provide the group with the confidence to become young trustees or be involved in running an VCSE sector organisation.
- To learn how to run an effective board meeting.
The training sessions are delivered in 1-1.5 hour sessions at your venue, where we explore a different area of trusteeship each week. The sessions all ran follow an interactive workshop style and make use of a variety of activities.
Ideally, the session plan should be developed in consultation with the group of young people. However, subsequent changes can always be made as the course progresses in response to feedback from the group.
We decide with you which topics to cover. However, the following list provides a good starting point:
- Roles and responsibilities
- Decision making
- Running an effective meeting
- Planning a project
- Diversity of skills/experience
- Safeguarding
- Environmental responsibility
- Negotiation skills
- Financial management
- Conflict/s of interest
- Vision, mission and values
- Marketing
- Monitoring and evaluation
- Team building
If you would like to cover a topic that isn't on the list, we would be happy to develop a session tailored specifically to your needs. At the end of the course, participants receive a certificate and hold a celebration!
