Become the Bridge: Taking Action Against Racism in the North East
Connected Voice is proud to be an early adopter of Become the Bridge, a new antiracism campaign led by the North East Anti-Racism Coalition. The campaign brings organisations together to create workplaces, services and communities where fairness and respect are the norm. Racism harms individuals, communities and businesses, and this campaign focuses on changing systems, not just making statements.
Become the Bridge focuses on practical action. Organisations that sign up gain access to a supportive regional network, shared learning, and resources that help turn commitment into meaningful change.
A Campaign Built on Practical Action
Become the Bridge calls on organisations to commit to real, measurable steps. Those who sign up gain access to a supportive network, shared learning, and regionspecific resources developed by and for our communities. The campaign provides a safe space to learn and grow, recognising that honest conversations and brave action are essential for meaningful progress.
Our Commitment at Connected Voice
Through our Support and Development service, we already help VCSE organisations strengthen governance, culture and policy. As part of this campaign, we will put even greater emphasis on supporting organisations of all sizes to:
- Develop robust Equity, Diversity and Inclusion policies
- Improve recruitment practices to build diverse workforces, including volunteers and trustees
- Create inclusive organisational cultures where everyone feels valued

Standing With Victims of Hate
We also continue to stand beside people who experience hate crime. Our advocacy service helps victims report incidents, navigate the criminal justice system, and access support. We share this expertise for professionals through training and digital tools such as HATE ID.
