Connected Voice is working with Gateshead Council to talk to the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector about their recent review of Advice, Information, Guidance and Advocacy. The Council have spent significant time consulting with the sector and developing this review, and now that the recommendations have been accepted by the Council they want to talk to interested organisations about it in more detail.

There are two sessions in which Gateshead Council would like to have a conversation about the findings and move towards a model that is the right fit for the Gateshead community; something that is much more about people and relationships and less about transactions and process. A model that is bespoke to the needs of individuals, continuous learning and course correcting which better contributes to social change.

Connected Voice

The Activate Collective is a new feminist movement working to champion female community activists to stand for political office. Their mission: to fund brilliant women - especially disabled, low income and women of colour - who are supporting their local communities so they can bring their power and perspective into politics- creating better policies based on that lived experience. They want you to help them build the Activate Collective to sponsor women who are community activists, carers, mentors and champions for other women, to run for office. Women whose innovation, know-how and hands-on experience can transform Parliament, local councils and communities.

Get involved! Activate Collective is a national organisation but Project Manager, Katie McSherry is based here in the North East, one of three areas they are piloting. Meet the team, get fired up and find out more at one of their launch events! Both events include pizza, a screening of Knock Down the House, and a panel of inspiring female activists, some of whom are in politics.

November 13 saw the last of our Focused Networking Events of 2019, introducing our new brand identity and our new Chief Executive, Lisa Goodwin, and opened by Kim McGuinness – Northumbria’s new Police and Crime Commissioner

A range of key speakers from not-for-profit or social enterprise organisations in Newcastle and Gateshead shared their experiences to inspire new ideas with representatives of more than 50 local organisations.

In the lead up to the General Election on 12 December, we have put together five important questions to ask your candidates, four of which are based on the key issues which have emerged from our most recent research report, Canaries in the Coalmine. The final question is on climate emergency.

Connected Voice (formerly Newcastle CVS) is the principal voluntary and community sector infrastructure organisation for Newcastle and Gateshead.  Our mission is to support the development of voluntary and community action that is effective, sustainable and brings about positive social change.

We are looking for a Business Development Specialist to join our team.  The role offers an exciting chance to develop commercial services and increase sales across the organisation as part of our commitment towards achieving greater sustainability.

From Monday 4 November we will be changing our name from Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service to Connected Voice. At the same time we are refreshing our brand with a new set of values and a new look and feel that better reflects what we do. It’s been a long journey to reach this point and we couldn’t have done it without the support of Sarah and Michael from Altogether Creative who have worked so hard to understand and capture who we are.
