Please see below important information regarding any recent changes to support for vulnerable people in Newcastle during the COVID-19 pandemic:

 

Newcastle City Council Housing Advice Centre

Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, from 1.00pm on Tuesday 24 March Newcastle City Council’s Housing Advice Centre staff will only be providing telephone or email advice. The Housing Advice Centre building will not be open for face-to-face advice until further notice. This will help us all to reduce the risk of spreading coronavirus.

Citizens Advice Newcastle Drop-in Advice Sessions  

Drop-in Advice Sessions Close at City Library closed Wednesday 18 March, and will remain closed until further notice. They are also closing outreach sessions at Prospect Medical Centre and Action for Children in Benwell. They will continue to provide advice by phone, webchat and e-mail for as long as possible:

Citizen's Advice Gateshead

Citizens Advice Gateshead’s local drop-in service is closed however their digital and telephone advice services are fully operational. The information and advice available is the same as that they deliver via the face to face service, covering welfare benefits, money advice, problems with housing and employment issues. The Consumer Helpline is available for anyone experiencing problems with goods and services and perhaps importantly at this time issues about energy suppliers including problems about being without a supply because of self-isolation.

Shelter

Shelter have moved from providing face-to-face services to telephone and online advice and support. Their office in Newcastle is now closed to people coming in for advice. If you are working with a resident who needs advice, they can phone 0344 515 1601 and an advisor will speak to them (Monday to Friday, from 9.00am to 5.00pm). In addition, they will be running a call back list of non-urgent enquires and staff will aim to get back to those people within 48 to 72 hours.

 

Crisis Skylight

The Newcastle team will be working remotely for the foreseeable future and will continue to work directly with our members by phone and online for those requiring individual and ongoing support.

They are also seeking out digital solutions to help them continue the work we do and remain committed to working with local partners to help provide resources and support to those most in need.

Newcastle East Foodbank

Newcastle East Foodbank has closed temporarily.

 

The People’s Kitchen

Please note that The People’s Kitchen has temporarily suspended their outreach services. Takeaway food will be served from the Alison Centre’s main doors.  

 

Vinnes Café at St Vincent’s Blackfriars

The Blackfriars Centre has closed to the public, but Vinnies Café is offering takeaway food and food parcels for residents in need. As the building is closed, people will need to ring the buzzer for assistance. Takeaway food will be available on Mondays from 10.30am to 1.30pm, on Tuesdays from 11.00am to 2.00pm, on Wednesdays from 10.00am to 1.30pm, and on Thursdays from 10.00am to 1.00pm.
